Minutes from the Platinum Jubilee meeting held at The Leigh Arms
Wednesday 26th January 2022 – 19.45
Present:- Andrew Bloor, Dionne Fowler, Alan Hough, David Hough, Paula Brierley-Jones
Apologies:- Stuart Underdown
The initial discussions focussed on how much the dynamic of Dutton parish has changed over the years and the closing of The Tunnel Top was noted as significant – a focal point for the majority of previous events.
It was also noted that past organised events in Dutton (1977 Silver Jubilee, 2000 Millennium, 2002 Golden Jubilee and 2012 Diamond Jubilee) had all been well attended by both children and adults alike – ca. 50 children at the Diamond Jubilee afternoon event and ca. 300 adults and children at the evening event.
Whitley Parish has extended an official invite to Dutton Parish to join them in their Platinum Jubilee celebrations on the evening of Thursday 2nd June at Whitley Village Hall, involving the lighting of a beacon, a picnic and a band. There was a brief discussion about past collaborations between Whitley and Dutton, including attendance at occasions organised by Whitley school. Whilst this invitation was gratefully received there seemed to be a general feeling amongst the majority of meeting attendees that a separate celebration for Dutton Parish would be favourable. It was noted that there were funds in the Dutton Parish Social Committee bank account which could be put towards a celebration.
There was also a brief discussion on what considerations would need to be given to COVID.
Andrew kindly offered his shed/field as a potential venue. Various suggestions were then put forward including a barn dance, a disco, a line dance, a band, a hog roast, a barbecue, a bouncy castle and a bar which then led to the question – is there the enthusiasm for, both the organisation of and the participation in, an event in Dutton?
In order to answer this question, the following actions were agreed which will be reviewed at the next meeting.
- Assess appetite for an afternoon children’s event. How many children would potentially want to participate – to include those living on Redacre/Rembury. (Dionne)
- Canvass opinions for a preferred date – Friday 3rd June or Saturday 4th June? (All)
- Check with Liz Williams for line dancing contacts. (Paula)
- Check social media for other local barn dancing/line dancing groups. (Dionne)
- Assess insurance implications – NFU. (Alan/Andrew/Paula)
- Check cost of Temporary Events Notice. (Alan/Paula)
- Check cost of portable toilets. (Paula)
- Check availability of Colette’s dad for disco and Steve’s band. (Andrew)
The meeting finished at 21.15.
Next meeting:- Wednesday 9th February – 19.45 at Davenports Tea Rooms
